Melbourne's Summer playground
A casual half hour drive from Melbourne on the Nepean Highway is where you discover the Mornington Peninsula. Situated on a 100 km stretch along picturesque coastline, the peninsula is a playground for Melbourne's summer holidaymakers. A boot shaped promontory separating Port Phillip Bay and Western Port bay boasting 45 kilometres of coastal national parks and stunning coastal walks.
This compact yet diverse region, where the roads follow the coastline and meander through the hills provides land and seascapes of memorable experiences. Discover the quaint seaside townships offering excellent surf beaches, swimming, dining and recreational activities.
The Peninsula is also a golfer's paradise, home to Victoria's greatest concentration of quality golf courses with four of them rated in Australia's top 100, so make sure you pack your golf clubs.
In the last decade the Mornington Peninsula has blossomed into one of Victoria's prime wine producing regions. The Peninsula has fertile soils, temperate climate and rolling hills, which are producing consistently good wines. There are dozens of wineries, mostly in the elevated central area around Red Hill and Main Ridge with more than 20 wineries open to the public on any given weekend. - TIP... Many of the beaches can be dangerous for swimmers, especially during high tide. Most of the surf beaches along the peninsula like Portsea Back Beach have zoned swimming areas marked by flags. Remember to stay between the flags when in the water and don't be too adventurous - as you may end up in Tasmania.
